Event snapshot

A regional event evolved into a large-scale wearable art showcase, bringing together creators, community and culture. Hosted at Sunshine Coast Convention Centre, the event transformed the ballroom into a vibrant runway of creativity, featuring finalists from eight different countries as well as across Australia.

With Encore’s production expertise, the show delivered a seamless, visually engaging experience that celebrated artistic expression while elevating the venue’s capability to host major cultural events.

Objective

The goal was to deliver a polished, high-impact showcase that balanced artistic freedom with production precision, ensuring each piece was individually presented at its best.

A secondary objective was to demonstrate the venue’s versatility in hosting large-scale creative events and strengthen its position within the regional events landscape.

The challenge

Each wearable art piece was unique, intricate and highly conceptual, supported by bespoke screen visuals, dedicated lighting and audio plus precision production to bring it to life.

Unlike traditional corporate events, the show demanded a visually rich, audience-led experience that maintained energy and engagement throughout.

Encore’s solution

Encore approached the event as a hybrid of theatrical production and structured event delivery, designing a show flow that balanced consistency with individuality. Each artist’s work was treated as a feature moment within a cohesive narrative.

Production design focused on elevating every piece through tailored lighting, artistic LED screen content and distinct audio for each look. Together, these elements created a layered, multi-sensory experience that enhanced storytelling while maintaining a clean, controlled show environment.

The production

The event opened with a curated showcase of works from a past showcase, introducing the concept of wearable art and setting the tone for the evening. This provided context for the audience and built anticipation ahead of the main programme.

Two acts followed, featuring finalist presentations across both halves of the show. Carefully sequenced staging ensured a natural rhythm, maintaining energy and allowing each design to be fully appreciated without overwhelming the audience.

The result was a cohesive and engaging experience that felt both professional and personal, celebrating individual creativity within a structured format.

Outcome

The event delivered an unforgettable, creative showcase that resonated with both audience and organisers, while demonstrating the venue’s capability to host complex creative productions.

After the successful event in July 2026, Encore looks forward to partnering again for the confirmed August 2027 Wearable Art Festival, that will grow to feature a national student showcase.

Wendy Roe from The Australian Wearable Art Festival commented on the event:

“The event came together beautifully and exceeded expectations. Seeing so many moving parts align into such a polished outcome was incredibly rewarding.”

Bringing this vision to life required both technical precision and creative understanding.

Nicole Russell, Regional General Manager for Encore’s eastern region was equally delighted with the team’s creative production of the event:

“Events like this are about enabling creativity to shine. Our role is to create the environment where every artist can present their work at its best. The team executed this brilliantly.”

Key takeaways for event planners

Creative showcases require a balance of structure and flexibility to successfully present diverse artistic work.

  • Design the show flow as a narrative, not just a sequence
  • Use production elements to support, not overpower the content
  • Build flexibility into delivery for varied creative requirements
  • Align closely with stakeholders to maintain artistic intent

The Encore difference
